Midshire staff holding the final amount raised at a charity cycle for the British heart foundation

National managed print service provider Midshire® is proud to announce that on Friday 24th August its staff raised a grand total of £2,844 at its ‘Midshire on Tour’ coast-to-coast charity static bike ride for the British Heart Foundation (BHF).

50 of Midshire’s Stockport and West Bromwich staff raced head-to-head on bikes donated by fitness charity and customer Life Leisure in 15-minute intervals to complete the initial 145-mile distance. On the day, so much ground was covered that it was decided to increase the distance to a gruelling 290 miles, taking the ride coast-to-coast, and back again.

Natalie Bunyan, Fundraising Manager at the BHF says: “This was a truly fantastic day to be a part of, the enthusiasm of Midshire’s staff is like nothing I’ve ever seen, particularly given the difficulty of the task!

“They used interactive Sharp BIG PADs with video conferencing software to have a live feed at each office, which created some friendly competition and made the day more fun and interactive!”

Full of enjoyable initiatives, the day saw staff come together for a raffle draw, with prizes ranging from a paid day off, bottles of wine, a Fit Bit donated by PC World, and a 3-month free Life Leisure gym membership. Healthy smoothies were also offered to staff, with all proceeds going directly to the BHF.

Responsible for some of the most ground-breaking discoveries in recent history, the BHF is a pioneer in heart research, and with around 7 million people living with heart related disease in the UK today, that research has never been so important.

Julian Stafford, Managing Director at Midshire comments: “The saddest thing is that everyone will eventually be directly touched by or know someone that has been afflicted with heart related illness, and the easiest way for us to stop that tragedy is by supporting fantastic organisations like the BHF.”

When talking about the charity cycle, Julian adds: “I am so proud of everyone at Midshire, they were averaging 4.5km in 15 minutes which is brilliant, but I’d like to give a special mention to Marcin Zelechowski from Stockport and Darren Fullwood from West Bromwich, who averaged 5.8km each interval, and 6.2km respectively! Well done everyone!”

Fellow Managing Director of Midshire, Phil Powell adds: “What a fantastic day. The Midshire way has always been to get grab the bull by the horns and give it your best shot, and I’d like to echo Julian in saying how proud I am of everyone that took part. They raised a phenomenal amount for such a good cause, well done Midshire!”

No strangers to promoting healthy living, fitness charity Life Leisure provided an ‘ActiLife’ programme to Midshire’s employees in 2015, national company Fruidel delivers bi-weekly fresh fruit baskets for healthy eating, and the BHF recently rolled out three CPR training courses to train staff for an emergency scenario.
