‘Super-fast Broadband’
The government’s roll out of super-fast broadband has now reached more than one million homes and business across the UK. As a result the work being done, more than 146,676 homes and businesses in the North West are already able to access the new fibre broadband service the roll-out is delivering.
The Federation of Small Business (FSB) has said that the UK’s broadband target is simply not ambitious enough when compared with other nations and wants the government to commit to delivering a minimum of 10Mbps for all homes and businesses by 2018-19.
John Allan, FSB’s national chairman, told the BBC that “there is still a long way to go”.
“Small businesses are increasingly reliant on digital services, but too many are without decent and affordable broadband that meet their needs. This restricts the ability to grow, innovate and compete in global markets”.
The £1.7 billion nationwide roll-out is firmly on track to extend super-fast broadband to 95% of UK homes and businesses by 2017. Faster broadband will not only improve profits for UK businesses, but will create an additional 56,000 jobs in the UK by 2024.
