Midshire receive “Working with Young People” Award
Bredbury based office technology firm, Midshire has been presented with a Silver Award for working with young people in Stockport.
The Working with Young People Award, organised by Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council, recognises employers that have assisted with both the training and education of young people between the age of 14 and 19 in Stockport.
To receive the award, employers must undertake both internal and external activities. Internal activities include employing apprentices and offering work experience placements, whilst external activities involve hosting workshops, lessons or mock interviews with schools or colleges.
There are four categories for the awards. The Bronze Award is given to employers that undertake two activities. The Silver Award is for employers that undertake three activities. The Gold Award is presented to employers that hold the Silver Award for two years, and The Platinum Award is for employers that hold Gold status for 3 years.
Midshire received the Silver Award for its development of young people through apprenticeships, work experience opportunities and visits to schools and colleges to share experience and knowledge.
Midshire currently has eleven apprentices working within the business, six of which have finished their apprenticeships and are working full-time within the business and five are in the process of completing their apprenticeships.
Debbie Wilson, Midshire Northern Operations Manager comments: “At Midshire we like to see young people come into the business and flourish. Our approach is to grow a multi-skilled workforce and apprenticeships give us a great foundation to develop the skills that the business needs. To be presented with the Silver Award is fantastic and shows that we are helping to make a real difference to young people in the local area.
Midshire also offer a number of week long work experience placements with students from Cheadle and Marple College. The students are able to chose which department they would like to work in, including: marketing, accounts, administration and telemarketing.
In addition to the internal work carried out by Midshire, the management team are always enthusiastic about sharing their experiences in the industry with students through attending school employment fairs.
This award comes at the end of a fantastic year for Midshire. Midshire MD Julian Stafford was crowned Stockport Business Person of the Year and named North West Entrepreneur of the Year, whilst Midshire received a Special Commendation award for IT Support to companies in Manchester.
