Midshire Shows Continued Support to Seashell Trust

Local managed print service provider Midshire^® is thrilled to announce its continued support for local charity the Seashell Trust.

Cheadle Hulme-based Seashell Trust provides secure learning environments to children and young adults aged 2-25 with complex disabilities, many of whom have little or no language capabilities.

A supporter of the charity since 2016, Midshire has pledged to help the Trust by taking additional work experience students within its administration department, and donating an iPad raffle prize to its ‘Strictly Seashell’ fundraiser.

Debbie Wilson, Operations Manager at Midshire says: “Marian Fahy from the Seashell Trust brings Kieran, who has autism, to work with us every Thursday morning for about an hour. We also had a lovely young man called James back in summer 2017, they’ve been very helpful by filing our outbound documents!”

The Trust offers additional training for businesses wishing to establish a more diverse workforce.

Seashell Trust Fundraiser Wendy Bray says: “Most companies shy away from working with a person with special needs as they often have preconceived beliefs about how difficult their experience will be. Our training programmes are there to eliminate any stigma, prepare businesses for CSR targets, and even develop equality and diversity policies.”  

She continues: “Our corporate relationships are so important to us. We make sure that any students we place are fully motivated to perform the specific tasks they are set, making them valuable for that business.”

Work experience placements in the past have included: housekeeping for Hilton Hotels, gardening for National Trust site Tatton park, and helping the Wellspring Centre feed the homeless in Stockport.

Seashell’s 90-acre Cheshire countryside site consists of swimming and hydrotherapy pools, an audiology clinic, a registered nurse-led medical centre, sports hall, and sensory rooms.

The charity is set to begin construction on a new purpose-built £45 million campus in 2018, upgrading and breathing new life into the pre-existing facilities, which are open 365 days a year to provide around the clock care to over 100 students.
