Children’s Cancer Charity Latches onto Touch Technology

National managed print service provider Midshire® has chosen to support LATCH Welsh Children’s Cancer Charity, which provides support to children with cancer and leukaemia and their families at the Oncology Unit within the Children’s Hospital for Wales.
Having already provided a Sharp multifunction device on a managed print service to take care of the print needs of staff, Midshire has donated a 32” Interactive Touch Screen Table to the charity, bringing some much-needed joy to children going through treatment.
Widely known for its provision of on-site family accommodation, LATCH also provides funding for a dedicated team of social workers who specialise in the issues facing the families of children receiving treatment. The charity also offers financial support through travel, food, and medical equipment grants.
Denise Henderson, General Manager of LATCH says:“A diagnosis of cancer or leukaemia can have an enormous impact on the family, both emotionally and financially, and LATCH aims to support families as much as possible in order to limit this impact.”
Over 70 children are diagnosed with cancer or leukaemia within the hospital’s catchment area each year. Their treatment can take between 6 months to 5 years, and the strain on the families during this time is enormous.
With an annual fundraising target of £800,000, LATCH is entirely reliant on donations, and support from organisations like Midshire helps to ensure the charity is able to flourish and provide support to those that need it.
Denise concludes:“As children spend so much time on Rainbow Ward, often in isolation, it’s very important to us to keep the children occupied and entertained. This generous donation from Midshire has proven to be a massive hit with the children on the ward, not to mention our ward-based Support Worker; the children use it to play games by themselves and in groups and it’s provided hours of joy and distraction which is fantastic.”
LATCH has several fundraising initiatives throughout the year. Currently the charity is promoting its creative Christmas cards which have been designed by children being treated on Rainbow Ward, available to buy from their online store now.
